West Arlington, is not really called that, or anything for that matter. It is comprised of a few different neighborhood names in the tax records. You may see names like Berkshire Oakwood, Minor Hill, Sycamore Gardens, and Oakwood to name a few. It is the often forgotten zip code of 22213, definitely the smallest one in Arlington.
Don’t let it’s lack of definitions deter you from living here. It has incredible access to almost anywhere in the DMV, minutes to 66 and the Beltway, a mileish to the East Falls Church Metro, a wonderful shopping Center, Williamsburg Shopping Center with a 7-11, CVS, Peking Pavillion Chinese, Zinga, Backyard BBQ, Two the Moon gifts, Deli Italiano for pizza and subs and more!
It has a more suburban feel, almost all Single Family Homes with a very few condos like Laurel Mews and Falls Station and a couple of townhomes here and there. However it is walkable to the Falls Church City Farmers Market as well as the aforementioned Williamsburg Shopping Center, the W&OD Trail, and Tuckahoe Park.
It has gone through an incredible transformation in the last 20 years, many 1950’s tract rambler style homes have been either popped up, torn down and replaced or modified in many different ways. The ubiquitous brick box colonials are plentiful here as well, and many of them have been remodeled inside or added onto the back, but the traditional colonial charm usually stays intact. Some homeowners have painted them or added front porches to break up the homogeny a bit.
The Williamsburg Civic Association is the group that stays in touch with the county to make sure the residents needs are met. It is a 100% volunteer organization and only costs $10 a year to belong.
